High temperature boron carbide plate

high strength, corrosion-resistant, high-temperature-resistant and stable chemical nature,wide range of applications B4C (Boron Carbide) is melted from boric acid and powdered carbon in electric furnace under high temperature. Its density is 2.52g/cm3, melting point 2450C; micro hardness 4950kgf/mm2, only next to diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN). Due to its high strength, low specific gravity, corrosion-resistant, high-temperature-resistant and stable chemical nature, it is ideal for a wide range of applications.

 

Application

  It is used to make ceramic anti-ballistic armour plating such as

  ---the small arms protective insert-a plate used in bullet-resistant vest,

  ---the ceramic tiles or plates used for the armoured cockpits of military air-planes, and the spall liners used in the tanks and modern armoured personnel carriers.

 

Used in the nuclear industry as

  ---to make control rods and shut down pellets for nuclear reactor

  ---to make tiles or plates or use the B4C powder for neutron absorber (high B10 content) for radiation protection, or mixed with concrete for shielding protection/

 

Used to make other ceramic products such as

 ---Grit blasting nozzles,

 ---High-pressure water jet cutter nozzles,

 ---Seal ring,

 ---Ceramic tolling dies.

 

Used in welding rods for improvement of wear resistance of surface.

 

Used in refractory industry: as antioxidant additives in magnesia carbon bricks.

 

It is an abrasive material in lapping and polishing applications, and also as a loose abrasive in cutting applications such as in water jet cutting. It can be also used for dressing diamond tools.
